Abstract
La conservation des oeuvres d’art est un domaine bien connu, il doit toutefois être envisagé sur le mode spécifique de la maintenance dès lors qu’il s’agit d’oeuvres qui « opèrent », qui existent à travers des processus, qu’ils soient mécaniques, chimiques, informatiques, biologiques, électroniques… Ces formes d’oeuvres, que l’on peut qualifier de « dispositifs », participent d’une « esthétique opérationnelle » alliant des dimensions sensibles, techniques et symboliques. Si elles peuvent trouver place dans les « salles blanches » des musées, où les conditions sont maîtrisées, ces oeuvres peuvent aussi être élaborées pour des lieux publics, en extérieur, dans des contextes où cette esthétique opérationnelle doit se muer en esthétique « coopérationnelle ». En effet, contextualiser de telles oeuvres revient à tisser des rapports actifs avec l’environnement dans lequel elles s’inscrivent et auquel elles participent. Mais si ces liens permettent à l’oeuvre d’exister, comment les maintenir, les entretenir ? Une hypothèse a été envisagée, lors d’une réflexion collective à la chambre blanche : déplacer cette maintenance du côté des publics, en la ritualisant.
