La loi Guizot traitant de l’organisation de l’enseignement primaire et du contrôle de l’école insiste sur l’importance de l’instruction morale et religieuse dans les écoles de l’État. Or, si l’enseignement religieux dans les écoles catholiques et protestantes au 19e siècle a été largement traité dans l’historiographie contemporaine, il n’en est pas de même pour l’éducation juive à la même époque. Cette étude se propose de combler cette lacune en se concentrant sur l’instruction religieuse des juifs de France au 19e siècle, sur la base des différents manuels scolaires consacrés à cette matière.
