Abstract
Après les controverses qui animent depuis de longues années le Canada et les États-Unis sur l’usage contesté du nom Noël pour désigner la fête de la Nativité (War on Christmas), la France connaît à son tour les prémices d’un conflit dénominatif qui a atteint un écho médiatique inédit à la suite de la diffusion d’un document de la Commission européenne en 2021 demandant de préférer le mot « Fête » à celui de « Noël ». Cette contribution voudrait questionner la posture énonciative qui consiste à renommer ou à éviter de nommer Noël dans l’espace public et les controverses qu’elle suscite.
