Abstract
L’orpaillage au Sénégal se caractérise par une précarité des travailleurs, leur exposition à des risques multiples et à des situations socioprofessionnelles subies. Le statut informel des activités d’orpaillage génère plusieurs contraintes, qui sont davantage complexifiées par les interactions des orpailleurs avec d’autres catégories d’acteurs dont les représentants des pouvoirs publics. Compte tenu des déséquilibres de pouvoirs, de moyens et de ressources, les orpailleurs n’ont souvent d’autres choix que de subir la volonté, les décisions et les agissements des acteurs exogènes ; d’où l’initiative de créer leur premier syndicat professionnel pour mieux défendre leurs intérêts. L’article analyse les dynamiques de création et de structuration dudit syndicat, ses fonctions et ses rôles, mais aussi le sens, les défis et les perspectives de ce syndicalisme naissant dans un contexte majoritairement dominé par l’informalité.
