La dernière décennie a vu l’émergence des études sur la disfluidité, un champ bourgeonnant dédié à mettre en lumière l’expérience du bégaiement sous une loupe anticapacitiste. Les réflexions qui y ont été animées se sont cependant peu intéressées au genre, en général, et à la transitude, en particulier. Les mémoires de l’autrice trans bègue étatsunienne Deirdre McCloskey offrent un palliatif à ces angles morts. À l’intérieur de leurs pages, l’écrivaine conçoit la transféminité et le bégaiement dans un rapport résolument aporétique. Cet article exploratoire entreprend de décortiquer la relation oppositionnelle qui y est dessinée en s’attelant, dans un premier temps, à la conception du bégaiement comme une entrave (inter)subjective à la performance d’une féminité réussie. Dans un second temps, la psychiatrisation conjointe de la transitude et du bégaiement est examinée afin d’exposer la mobilisation de discours psychopathologisants aux fins d’un renforcement du gatekeeping des soins d’affirmation de genre chez les personnes trans bègues.
