Abstract
The vagus nerve, the 10th and longest of the cranial nerves, is a significant component of the parasympathetic nervous system and plays a crucial role in the communication between the body and the brain. Recent research has investigated the effect of transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) on executive functions [1], given that the stimulation tends to enhance activation in brain areas such as the prefrontal cortex through the locus coeruleus-norepinephrine (LC-NE) system [2]. Notably, prefrontal areas such as the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) play a key role in various executive functions such as cognitive flexibility, planning, inhibition, and abstract reasoning [3].
