Abstract
Este artículo analiza la retórica del político argentino Domingo F. Sarmiento como constructora de un espacio nacional civilizado. Allí, se limita, en algunos casos, la agencia política de otredades construidas como bárbaras, en el caso del sujeto indígena, del gaucho, y del federal. En nombre del Estado argentino políticos y gobernantes como Sarmiento omitieron progresivamente la agencia política y social del indígena mediante una retórica poco inocente. Este artículo da muestras del carácter sistemático y procesual que tuvo esta desposesión ontológica desde la Corona española pasando por la independencia hasta comienzos del ochocientos.
