Le long séjour d’Henri Bosco au Maroc, de 1932 à 1955, a été d’une importance décisive dans l’orientation de l’œuvre du romancier de L’Antiquaire, mais aussi dans l’influence qu’il aura dans le paysage des lettres au Maghreb, parallèlement à celle de Jean Grenier et Gabriel Audisio en Algérie, et à celle d’Armand Guibert et Jean Amrouche en Tunisie. Les amitiés inspiratrices que Bosco va y nouer, sous l’influence du philosophe René Guénon, vont être à l’origine de la création de la revue Aguedal que Bosco anime et dirige à Rabat de 1936 à 1943, en s’efforçant d’y associer l’intellectualité locale marocaine, de langue arabe ou française. Creuset d’une réflexion sur une « métaphysique orientale » inspirée de la Doctrine guénonienne, Aguedal constitue un élément majeur mais méconnu de l’histoire littéraire au Maghreb.
