Este trabalho se concentra nos processos urbanos e históricos que permitiram a construção do Memorial da Resistência (MR), localizado em um antigo centro de detenção e tortura em São Paulo, analisando-o à luz dos movimentos de circulação de modelos urbanos e de políticas de memória. Sugerimos a compreensão do memorial, construído no âmbito de um projeto mais amplo de "renovação" da área central de São Paulo, como um espaço de oportunidade: um lugar estabelecido por atores e grupos que, em meio a situações aparentemente desfavoráveis, enxergaram frestas para obter o reconhecimento de suas pautas e desenvolver projetos voltados à construção de cidades e sociedades mais justas. Para tanto, analisaremos a constituição histórica do MR, entendendo-o como fruto e agente de movimentos urbanos mais amplos que extrapolam a esfera local.
