Abstract
Evaluation of germinal matrix in fetal brains is limited to examination of standard histologic sections stained with hematoxylin and eosin.TTF-1 (aka NKX-2.1), is expressed in lungs, thyroid, and certain regions of brain, including diencephalon, basal forebrain, neurohypophysis, optic chiasm, and corpus striatum, 1 and is also a factor in the development of the forebrain, thyroid, and lungs. 1 I therefore performed my own examination of fetal brain samples to confirm or rule out the possibility of TTF-1 expression in brain of human fetuses.Post-mortem brains without known central nervous system malformations were obtained from 17 fetuses (9 male, 7 female, and 1 unknown; gestational ages range 15 to 37 weeks).Necropsies were performed following either ter-1264603P DPXXX10.
