« Love is Action » : les femmes autochtones de la Nouvelle-France dans la Correspondance de Marie de l’Incarnation (1639-1672)

Abstract
Cet article propose d’observer la représentation des femmes autochtones dans le discours colonial de Marie de l’Incarnation, pour démontrer dans quelle mesure ses lettres offrent un éclairage inédit dans le discours culturel moderne, tout en restant fidèle aux limites de l’époque moderne. En effet, en tant qu’actrice engagée dans la mission de la Nouvelle-France, Marie participe activement aux pratiques coloniales de domination des peuples autochtones, qui aboutiront au génocide culturel dont les répercussions se font encore sentir au Canada aujourd’hui. Paradoxalement, sa Correspondance démontre qu’en écrivant les violences systématiques raciste, sexuelle et de genre, Marie critique en réalité ces politiques patriarcales coloniales et manifeste par la même occasion une éthique de l’amour de l’Autre envers les jeunes filles et femmes autochtones de la Nouvelle-France.
