Abstract
Dans l’archipel du Cap-Vert, situé au large du Sénégal, dans l’océan Atlantique, sur l’île de Fogo, de multiples petits volcans sont entrés en éruption au cours des derniers siècles, provoquant leurs lots de destructions. Les populations créoles qui vivent au contact du Pico de Fogo ont développé une relation ambivalente avec leur volcan qui offre des opportunités exceptionnelles, en particulier pour le tourisme et les activités agricoles dans un archipel où l’accès à l’eau reste le plus grand défi. Bien que la dernière éruption de 2014 ait détruit leurs maisons, certaines familles ont décidé de revenir vivre au pied du volcan, profitant des ressources financières qu’il procure. À travers les notions de vitalité et de compensation, sont ici examinés les mécanismes de résilience et les stratégies de subsistance qui accompagnent les retours des habitants de Chã aux abords du Pico do Fogo.
