Abstract
On June 12, 2024, a letter by researchers from the USA and Canada in the New England Journal of Medicine presented data on the prevalence of azithromycin resistance among patients with syphilis in 13 US states, Washington DC, and two Canadian provinces. 604 Treponema pallidum isolates were collected from 588 patients and the prevalence of resistance to azithromycin was high with 599 isolates (99·2%) harbouring resistance-associated mutations.
