Le présent article analyse la caractérisation aux fins de la fiscalité canadienne de différents types de régimes communément considérés comme des « pensions », et décrit les conséquences fiscales canadiennes de chacune de ces caractérisations. Il se concentre sur les employés qui résident au Canada et qui participent à des régimes de pension étrangers, qui accumulent des prestations dans ces régimes ou qui en reçoivent des distributions. Après un exposé général des sources de revenu fiscal pertinentes, l'article présente une étude de cas pour illustrer l'application de ces concepts fiscaux au cas d'une résidente actuelle du Canada qui recevra des prestations de divers régimes de pension britanniques auxquels elle a participé lorsqu'elle résidait et travaillait au Royaume-Uni.
