The Hpo geomagnetic activity index is an alternative to the Kp and Dst indices for assessing severe geomagnetic storms. The first assessment of Kp=9 geomagnetic storms during 1985-2024 is presented based on the new version (V.3.0) of Hpo. The May 2024 Gannon storm is one of the most intense geomagnetic storms since 1985 in various measures based on Hpo.
