Abstract
Documenting a site through hand-drawing offers an alternative approach to conventional methods of representation including photography and digital drawing. This thesis examines the ability of various drawing methods to convey the atmospheric qualities of a place and facilitate attunement. It delves into phenomenological concepts, questioning the values of hand-drawing in the digital age. Exploring the site of my grandparents’ family cottage, I begin with studying the original hand-drafted drawings from 1962, and build up a series of hand and digital drawings with reflections. I question how these methods can be used together to enhance my knowledge of a place, and their potential future applications.
