Abstract
Abstract: The life and contribution to twentieth-century Catholic history of Baroness Catherine de Hueck is well known. Lesser known, but nonetheless significant, the life of Paul Wattson, the Father Founder of the Society of the Atonement, intersected with that of De Hueck in noteworthy ways. Scholars have noted Wattson's aid to De Hueck in her Canadian foundation of Friendship House and their combined efforts in New York. The more personal and spiritual relationship between these two important figures requires fuller examination. Wattson served as de Hueck's spiritual mentor and ministerial supporter during the critical years between 1925 and 1940, providing guidance during her difficult years in Canada and paving the way for her ministry in the Harlem section of New York City.
