Abstract
This autoethnography, ‘Meeshaatang Huluniixsuwaakan’, explores the language learning of the author through the four key learning needs (Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual) of Indigenous peoples. Beginning in the early 1970s, with the learning of the Munsee language on a small southwestern Ontario reserve, and encompassing English and French language learning in the provincial schools, the chapter makes connections among the physical learning environment, teachers, and learning from first language speakers born in different centuries. Family attitude towards different languages and different accents is briefly explored in addition to personal reconciliation regarding learning Indigenous and settler languages.
