Au début du 21e siècle, on assiste à l’éclosion d’un champ de recherches dynamique et socialement engagé autour de la notion de patrimoine, qui a la particularité d’instaurer un dialogue - souvent interculturel- entre les milieux académiques, les milieux culturels et les communautés ou publics divers. Cet article présente trois développements contemporains spécifiques: la collaboration des anthropologues au sein d’un champ interdisciplinaire d’études critiques du patrimoine ; un (ré)investissement des musées et centres d’arts et d’archives à échelle locale, nationale et internationale ; l’ouverture vers les publics à travers de formes célébrées de science participative et de science ouverte, ou, plus décriées, comme le tourisme.
