Abstract
Familiarity with the regulations, policies and procedures associated with biological control research is vital for timely and successful implementation of biological control programmes in Canada. This chapter reviews the federal (and provincial) legislation and policy governing the introduction of exotic biological control agents and the movement of organisms between provinces in Canada and discusses Regional Standards for Phytosanitary Measures developed by the North American Plant Protection Organization to facilitate international cooperation. The chapter additionally reviews the review process for biological control agent petitions, access and benefit sharing and public engagement as they pertain to biological control in Canada.
