Abstract
European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis , is a generalist herbivore introduced to North America from Europe that is known to damage important vegetable and field crops. Damage to corn from O. nubilalis is reduced in Bt corn hybrids, but there is now evidence of resistance to Bt in some O. nubilalis populations. Trichogramma egg parasitoids, including Trichogramma brassicae and Trichogramma ostriniae , have been used for biological control of O. nubilalis in Canada since the 1990s, as have some generalist predators and entomopathogens. Augmentative biological control using Trichogramma has been the focus of biological control research for O. nubilalis in Canada since 2013, including studies of technology to release Trichogramma , which are reviewed in this chapter.
