Abstract
Blackheaded fireworm, Rhopobota naevana , is a pest of cranberries in all provinces where cranberries are grown in Canada. Larvae of the blackheaded fireworm consume leaves, buds, flowers and fruits; larval feeding can result in yield losses up to 95%. Integrated pest management programmes for R. naevana can include chemical insecticides and spring flooding. Mating disruption is being studied in Canada, as are options for biological control which are reviewed in this chapter. In particular, several Trichogramma spp. have been reared from blackheaded fireworm in Quebec, and recent research has focused on investigating suitable methods for releasing trichogramma parasitoids without damaging cranberry beds.
