Invasive alien species pose a significant threat to forests and agroecosystems around the world. In Canada, forward-looking research programmes endeavour to identify invasive alien species with potential to establish populations in Canada and are working to proactively develop biological control programmes for those species. This chapter highlights information campaigns designed to bring attention to invasive alien species and reviews arthropods, plants, and plant pathogens that may need to be evaluated as targets for future biological control programmes. Key elements of a forward-looking research programme in Canada for spotted lanternfly, Lycorma delicatula (White) (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae), that could be applied to other potentially invasive species are also reviewed.
