Abstract
Native to North America, the wheat stem sawfly, Cephus cinctus , is an important pest of wheat and other grains in the family Poaceae. Wheat stem sawfly larval feeding inside the stem of the host plant affects growth and yield production of the host plant. Larvae also cut the stem of their host plant when preparing to overwinter, making the host plant susceptible to lodging and resulting in yield loss because grains cannot easily be harvested off the ground. In Canada, several parasitoids have been documented in association with wheat stem sawfly; of these, Bracon cephi has the greatest impact on wheat stem sawfly in western Canada. Recent biological control in the western United States and Canda is reviewed.
