Abstract
The majority of high school students in Alberta do nothave access to French immersion programs of the same quality.There is a wide range in the amount of instruction given in Frenchand a wide diversity in the courses offered in French at the highschool level. The rate of attrition seems to be high especially in thescience programs. To study this theory a questionnaire wasdistributed to all administrators ofFrench Immersion High Schoolsin Alberta. The objectives of the study were to describe the situationin Alberta by indicating (a) the number of French Immersion HighSchools in Alberta offering science courses in French, (b) whatcourses are being offered in French in French Immersion HighSchools in Alberta, and (c) the reasons why schools decide to offer,or not to offer, high school science courses in French.
