Keterkaitan desa kota antara Kabupaten Simalungun dan Kota Tebing Tinggi yang bersifat dua arah dan saling menguntungkan dapat membawa dampak yang besar baik pada kegiatan ekonomi di wilayah perdesaan maupun perkotaan sehingga akan meningkatkan kesejahteran masyarakat di wilayah perbatasan Kabupaten Simalungun. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut perumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana perbedaan pendapatan masyarakat yang melakukan interkasi dengan yang tidak melakukan interaksi, tingkat interaksi desa dalam mendukung aktivitas penduduk, dan faktor - faktor masyarakat melakukan interaksi di wilayah perbatasan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah uji beda rata - rata, metode gravitasi dan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendapatan masyarakat yang melakukan interaksi di wilayah penelitian memiliki pendapatan yang lebih besar dibandingkan yang tidak melakukan interaksi. Interaksi desa yang kuat dipengaruhi oleh jarak dan jumlah penduduk. Faktor orang melakukan interaksi desa kota dominan dipengaruhi adanya gaji/upah yang lebih tinggi di Kota Tebing Tinggi dan fasilitas dan pelayanan pendidikan dan kesehatan yang lebih baik di Kota Tebing Tinggi
