Abstract
Pembangunan subsektor peternakan merupakan bagian dari pembangunan sektor pertanian, yang memiliki nilai strategis dalam memenuhi kebutuhan bahan pangan yang terus meningkat.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kelayakan pembentukan sentra peternakan sapi potong di Kabupaten Simalungun ditinjau dari aspek finansial dan non finansial. Alat analisis yang digunakan pada aspek finansial adalah revenue-cost ratio (r/c ratio), adapun aspek non finansial yang dilakukan adalah aspek teknik, aspek manajemen, aspek pasar, aspek hukum, aspek ekonomi dan sosial serta aspek lingkungan. Responden dalam penelitian ini adalah peternak yang mewakili kelompok ternak sejumlah 29 orang.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembentukan sentra peternakan sapi di Kabupaten Simalungun layak dilakukan ditinjau dari aspek finansial dengan nilai R/C sebesar 1,88. Demikian pula bila ditinjau dari aspek pasar, aspek ekonomi dan sosial dan aspek lingkungan, sedangkan aspek teknis, manajemen dan hukum masih perlu dibenahi
