Abstract
Cet article revisite l’historiographie de la musique country aux États-Unis et celle de la musique traditionnelle au Québec en croisant l’analyse des phénomènes des barn dance shows et des veillées du bon vieux temps des années 1920. En extirpant ces pratiques culturelles de leurs cadres nationaux et des présupposés découlant de la catégorisation musicale, l’auteur y observe de nouvelles potentialités, autant d’un point de vue esthétique et poétique que social et politique. Les spectacles de musique du bon vieux temps, de part et d’autre de la frontière, auraient ainsi brièvement offert à leur public une occasion de moduler leur rapport aux identités collectives, aux traditions et au passé à l’aune du rire, de l’humour et de la parodie.
