Abstract
The article, written on the basis of documents from the Russian State Archive of Economics (RSAE), examines the main directions of Soviet-Canadian negotiations on the expansion of trade relations in 1944-1946. The needs and interests of both sides, the issue of redemption of the shortfall under the Lend-Lease, the terms of the issue of the Soviet Government obtaining a Canadian loan to purchase equipment, and the negotiations to purchase wheat and equipment for hydroelectric power stations are discussed in detail. The author identifies the reasons for the inability of the USSR and Canada to increase mutual trade in the early post-war period.
