Abstract
Herbert William Robinson (1914-), born in Hull, received his BS from the University of London in 1935, PhD from the London School of Economics in 1937 and DPhil from Oxford in 1939. He published a number of economics articles in 1939-40 and a book on the economics of building in 1939. Before World War Two he was senior lecturer at (what later became) the University of Hull. During the war he served on the staff of Winston Churchill, with the Ministry of Production and with the joint British-American-Canadian Production and Resources Board. Subsequently he worked with UNRRA in Poland. After migrating to the United States, he served on the staff of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, 1947-51, and of the Defense Production Administration, 1951-53. He was president of C-E-I-R Inc., a computer services firm, 1954-67, and vice president of Control Data Corporation, 1968-70. He has been president of International Management Systems since 1970.
