Abstract Oggi non stupisce più che un manuale o un sillabo per la didattica di una seconda lingua includa materiale ludico. Le ricerche didattiche sull'uso del gioco hanno mostrato negli ultimi decenni che i giochi linguistici portano ad uno sviluppo maggiore della capacità autonoma di usare la seconda lingua in modo creativo, e cioè, allo sviluppo dell'abilità di usare la nuova lingua come veicolo del pensiero. Tra i vari giochi didattici, l'indovinello linguistico classico costituisce una tecnica particolarmente efficace in questo senso. Questo lavoro vuole inquadrare l'indovinello come “testo autentico” per lo stimolo dell'attività linguistica autonoma. Questo significa lasciare molta libertà agli allievi di coinvolgersi nelle varie modalità semantiche dell'indovinello, permettendo loro di decifrare il contenuto metaforico e connotativo con cui l'indovinello viene costruito. Le proposte didattiche qui elaborate permetteranno all'insegnante di confezionare questa tecnica ludica secondo gli scopi del proprio corso.
