Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

After the publication of ZwischenWelten,Juli Zeh'smost recent novel, co-authored with Simon Urban, the author once again was omnipresent in German media while the novel itself topped the bestseller charts.Zeh'subiquitous presenceinthe literary landscape finds itself matched by increasings cholarlya ttention. In 2021,t he venerable journal TEXT+KRITIK published its first issue dedicated to the work of Zeh, entitled Divergenzen des Schreibens and edited by Klaus Schenk and Christina Rossi.Amere twoyears later, this new volume, edited by Heinz-Peter Preuer, is furthert estament to the ongoing scholarlyi nterest in Zeh'sw ork.Despite its shortness -thei ssue barelyc rosses the one-hundred-pagem ark -the volume does not lack in scope.Itsn ine essays cover aspects rangingf rom narratology to adaptation to literary awards, and, not surprisingly, given Zeh'sacademic training in law, the relationship between literature and law.The aforementioned scope of topics finds its echo in the diverse approaches the individual authors take in their analyses.Stephen Brockmann dedicates his essayt ot he question of how liberalismi sc onceptualized in Zeh'sn ovels, while Agnes Mueller, acousinofthe author, chooses to write her analysis of the blurring of textual boundaries in Unterleuten in the form of apersonal letter, thus referencing Zeh'sown poetics lecture Treideln from 2013.Other contributions venture into previouslyunexplored scholarlyterritory, like Sarah Maa in her essayonawards and their implication for Zeh'sp osition in the literary field, or Heinz-Peter Preuer'saptlytitled "Ungeheures,Unerhrtes," an examination of plot twists thatcovers the entirety of Zeh'soeuvresofar.Michael Tteberg, in turn, focuses on adap-tationsofZeh'ssecond novel Spieltrieb for the stageaswell as the big and the small screen, of which aBrazilian television series from 2013, AMenina sem Qualidades, is arguablyt he least known and therefore the most surprising discovery.M atteo Galli, in his critical essayd edicated to the representation of rural East Germany, takes Zeh'sruminations on kitsch, as outlinedinTreideln, and applies them to Unterleuten and ber Menschen,w hereas Michael Vauthc onnects thed ystopian aspects of Zeh'sw riting by bringingi nto dialogue Spieltrieb, Corpus Delicti,a nd Leere Herzen. What emergesi sakaleidoscopic picture of Zeh'swork that affirms, adds, and expands previouslye xisting scholarship on the prominent author.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
