Abstract
I first met Bernie Warren some years ago at a conference in Oxford and whilst chatting to him I became very interested in the concept of clown-doctors and how such a concept could be applied to facilitate improved adherence to infection-control practice. Bernie is a Professor of Drama in Education and Community at the School of Dramatic Art, University of Windsor in Canada, and is the Director of the Fools For Health clown-doctor program and has considerable experience and expertise in applying the concept of clown-doctors within a multitude of clinical settings. Recently the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation, who accredits healthcare institutions nationwide, cited his Fools For Health clown-doctor program as a leading practice and recommended it as a ‘standard for care’ for long-term care (rehabilitation/continuing complex care).
