Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Egypt's significant population growth has accelerated urban development, particularly from the 1980s to the present, leading to fierce competition for land use between agriculture and construction. The state faces challenges in balancing urban needs and controlling urban expansion on agricultural lands due to chaotic urban sprawl. This study aims to preserve the remaining finite agricultural lands in the ancient floodplains, specifically around the capital cities of agricultural governorates in the Egyptian Delta: Mansoura, Kafr El-Sheikh, Tanta, Shebin El-Kom, and Damietta. These cities are at significant risk due to the lack of space for growth as they lack a desert hinterland. Researchers used remote sensing and (GeoAI) (Geographic Artificial Intelligence) techniques to monitor and analyze encroachments on agricultural lands over time, forecasting future encroachments up to 2030. The study found hazardous encroachments due to chaotic growth patterns in several cities, leading to new urban clusters and merging of urban areas. Recommendations were made to limit this trend to avoid depleting high-quality agricultural lands, which threatens national food and environmental security. Without intervention, the Delta risks becoming a massive urban block, endangering all aspects of national security.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
