Giriş ve Amaç: Palyatif bakım alan hastalara sıklıkla hasta yakınları tarafından bakım desteği verilmektedir. Bu durum hasta yakınlarında bakım vermeye hazırlıklı olma ve bakım vermenin oluşturduğu yükler ortaya çıkarmaktadır. Bu çalışma palyatif bakım alan hasta yakınlarının bakıma hazır olma düzeyleri ve bakım yüklerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla tanımlayıcı olarak yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma bir Üniversite Hastanesinin palyatif bakım kliniğinde yatan hastaların yakınları ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırma örneklemini 180 hasta yakını oluşturmuş ve çalışma için etik kurul ve kurum izni alınmıştır. Araştırma verileri Edmonton Semptom Değerlendirme Sistemi, Bakım verme yükü ve Bakıma Hazıroluşluluk ölçeği kullanılarak yüz yüze toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın değerlendirilmesinde Kruskal Wallis ve Pearson Korelasyon testleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Hasta yakınlarının % 56,1’ inin kadın, %44,4’ ünün ( 31-40 ) yaş aralığında, %62,2’ sinin evli olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ailelerin Bakım verme yükü ölçeği alt boyut puan ortalaması 44,97±12,33 ve bakım vermeye hazır oluşluluk ölçeği alt boyut puan ortalaması 28,96±6,28 olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
