Abstract
The seasonal diet of pumpkinseed sunfish (Lepomis gibbosus; A), one of the most rapidly expanding warm-water fish in North America, captured across four pond populations in Southern Ontario using clover traps (B) deployed biweekly from February 5 to August 1, 2021.Data presented are proportions of stomach content mass, as a percentage, across biweekly sampling periods in Ponds A-D (Pond A: C, Pond B: D, Pond C: E, Pond D: F).Diet data were not collected during Sample Periods 1 and 2, so the origin begins at Sample Period 3. Blank periods indicate that either no fish were captured during these samples or that all sampled fish had empty stomachs.*Includes digested unidentifiable invertebrates and less common diet items, including Hymenoptera, Dermaptera, Coleoptera, Decapoda, Amphipoda, Hydrachnidia, macrophytes, and sediment debris.Photos taken by Timothy J.
