Abstract
Le poète Alfred DesRochers (1901-1978) a tenu un journal intime de 1966 à 1976. Ses cahiers décrivent son quotidien au bord du lac Clair, dans les Laurentides, et du fleuve Saint-Laurent, à l’hôtel du Vieux Prince de Ville de Sainte-Catherine. Inédit, ce texte peut être lu comme un journal de deuil qui accompagne et participe à la genèse du dernier recueil publié par DesRochers, en hommage à son épouse Rose-Alma Brault décédée en 1964, Élégies pour l’épouse en-allée (1967). Le cadre de l’écriture donne lieu à une poétique qui se forge à même l’expérience de la nature, ancrant le journal dans le nature writing. La rencontre avec l’altérité, qu’elle soit liée à la mort ou à la nature, façonne l’éthos intime du diariste. Première étude consacrée à ce journal, cet article se penche sur les deux premières années de sa rédaction en s’appuyant sur les travaux d’Isabelle Galichon sur l’éthos intime et ceux de Maïté Snauwaert sur le journal de deuil.
