Si l’on examine la réception faite des romans et récits des écrivaines françaises de l’entre-deux-guerres (1919-1939) dans les années mêmes de leur publication, une réaction est récurrente : les lecteurs et critiques contemporains (hommes et femmes confondus) trouvent que les femmes publient beaucoup de récits autobiographiques. Cette production est-elle un creuset de l’expression de l’intime ? Si le substrat existentiel est très présent dans les écritures de femmes, l’écriture de soi se pratique-t-elle à visage découvert ? Nous nous interrogeons sur les diverses configurations de l’intime que dessinent les textes de Mireille Havet et de Catherine Pozzi, récits autobiographiques et journaux personnels. Les récits Carnaval (Havet) et Agnès (Pozzi) s’inscrivent dans un horizon d’attente qui correspond à l’air du temps et mettent en place des stratégies de filtrage de l’intime. Dans leurs journaux, les auteures tentent de construire, plus que des images de soi, une relation à soi. La différence du traitement de l’intime dans les récits et les journaux influence la réception qu’en fait le lecteur et joue un rôle dans le degré d’obsolescence du texte.
