Abstract
L’année 1924 de Cendrars est marquée par deux événements qui s’enchaînent : la découverte du Brésil durant plus de sept mois et, à son retour en France, l’écriture en six semaines de L’Or, son premier roman. Pendant plus de trente ans, le poète est revenu sur une année devenue pivotale pour interroger le cheminement imprévisible et nécessaire qui conduit de la découverte de son Utopialand à son apprentissage de romancier. Étonnamment nombreux et variés dans son oeuvre, les retours en spirale de l’année 1924 offrent un miroir à sa conception de la modernité et balisent sa recherche du temps perdu.
