Abstract
The first epidemiological study in children and youth was the Isle of Wight study published in 1970. Since then, there have been many surveys globally to measure the prevalence and correlates of mental disorders in this age group. The results have been fairly consistent in reporting high rates of disorder and strong associations with a number of correlates including important social determinants of health. The objective of this Symposium is to present new data from a number of epidemiological studies globally that use new methods, sampling frames, and analytic methods to build upon the work of the first generation of psychiatric epidemiological studies.
