Abstract
A petroglyph showing a hanging scene is incised at DgOv-2 at Writing-on-Stone in southern Alberta. Photographed in 1897 and recorded in 1976 as part of a wider documentation of rock art in the provincial park, the subject of the image remained unknown. Recent research and a better understanding of the Biographic art lexicon suggests this image documents the execution of the Blood (Káínawa) warrior Charcoal (Si’k-okskitsis) following a prolonged manhunt by the North-West Mounted Police.
