Cet article explore les modes décoratives de trois habitations du quartier d’architec­ture anglaise de Thames Town, situé dans la ville nouvelle de Songjiang en périphérie de Shanghai. Ces intérieurs, tous caractérisés par l’éclectisme et la co-présence de nombreux élé­ments tout autant rattachés par les habitants à des univers culturels occidentaux qu’à l’histoire chinoise, interrogent les modes contemporains d’habiter d’une partie de la population chinoise, ainsi que les représentations culturelles croisées et les formes d’interaction entre la Chine et l’Occident. L’analyse des décorations permet d’appréhender – au travers de la matérialisation (ou mise en objet) comme mode d’expression propre à l’univers domestique – des formes de création culturelle hybridée, d’appropriation spatiale des espaces de vie, ainsi que les processus d’identification individuelle et collective et d’organisation des rapports sociaux.
