Abstract
Les Lettres d’Angélique Arnauld à la reine de Pologne Louise-Marie de Gonzague sont exemplaires de la place rhétorique que peut occuper la Providence divine. Puisqu’il s’agit d’enchaîner l’événement terrestre à sa causalité supérieure pour entraîner sa destinataire à une lecture renouvelée du monde, la Providence y joue en effet le rôle de moteur rhétorique : cette dernière est le principe selon lequel le monde est déchiffrable et l’horizon qui gouverne la mise en œuvre des émotions. Élargi à la dimension de l’éternité, l’événement humain devient ainsi un drame requalifiable par une dynamique textuelle soucieuse à la fois de le commenter et de le laisser à son mystère.
