SummaryRolle’s theorem plays a key role in every modern calculus text as a prelude to the mean-value theorem. We discuss whether it ought to, how it might be better expressed, how best to present and prove the multitude of ideas related to this theorem, and whether to allow Michel Rolle to appear in our textbooks in any case.
