HISTORICAL MEMORY AND TRAUMA IN CANADIAN GRAPHIC NOVELS: AN ANALYSIS OF AUTHOR’S NARRATIVE MEANS

Abstract
студентка ІІ курсу факультету іноземної філології Волинського національного університету імені Лесі УкраїнкиСтаттю присвячено дослідженню авторських наративних засобів формування історичної пам'яті та репрезентації травми в канадських графічних романах у контексті переосмислення канадської історії та ідентичності корінних народів.Матеріалом дослідження слугують графічні романи «Німкій» (Nimkii), «Нахилена земля» (Tilted Ground), «Роузі» (Rosie) графічної антології This Place: 150 Years Retold, створеної представниками корінних народів канади.дослідження показує, що в графічних романах ефективно поєднано вербальні та невербальні компоненти для створення багатошарових історичних наративів, які дозволяють читачам глибше зануритися у зображувані історичні події колоніального минулого корінних народів канади та зрозуміти емоційні стани персонажів.Ці графічні романи не лише передають травматичний досвід корінних народів, висвітлюють маловідомі або замовчувані аспекти історії канади, але й популяризують знання про минуле, стимулюють критичне мислення, емпатію та рефлексію щодо зображуваних історичних подій.Проаналізовано вербальні та невербальні засоби, які використовують автори та ілюстратори для висвітлення травматичного досвіду корінних народів канади та формування їхньої колективної пам'яті.З-поміж вербальних засобів зафіксовано використання фонетичних, лексичних та синтаксичних одиниць для відтворення травматичного досвіду.Невербальні засоби включають специфічну кольорову палітру, вирази обличчя та пози персонажів, структуру панелей, шрифт, пунктуацію, які візуально підкреслюють емоційний вплив травматичних подій.Результати дослідження підтверджують значний потенціал графічних романів як засобу для переосмислення історії, формування колективної пам'яті та репрезентації травматичного досвіду.Це дослідження відкриває перспективи для подальшого вивчення ролі графічних романів у формуванні історичної свідомості та національної ідентичності.ключові слова: графічний роман, корінні народи канади, травма, травматичний досвід, емоційний стан, вербальний засіб, невербальний засіб. Закарпатські філологічні студіїVerbal and non-verbal means used by authors and illustrators to highlight the traumatic experience of Canada's Indigenous peoples and the formation of their collective memory are analysed.Among the verbal means, phonetic, lexical and syntactic units to reproduce the traumatic experience were identified.Non-verbal means include a specific colour palette, facial expressions and postures of characters, panel structure, font, punctuation, which visually emphasize the emotional impact of traumatic events.The results of the study confirm the significant potential of graphic novels as a means of reinterpreting history, forming collective memory, and representing traumatic experiences.This study opens perspectives for further study of the role of graphic novels in the formation of historical consciousness and national identity.
