Abstract
This essay is a review of Joëlle Zask’s book titled Écologie et démocratie, published in 2022 by Premier Parallèle. Its goal is to first summarize the main arguments of the book, highlight its originality, and finally propose some of its potentials. The relevance of this book lies particularly in the fact that it conceptualizes democracy not merely as a type of “political machinery”, but as a “way of life”, which is intimately connected to an ecological culture. Zask thus demonstrates that a pragmatist perspective of democracy allows it to be concretely linked to political ecology. However, a sociological or ethnographic investigation based on this theory could further nuance and refine its principles.
