L’utilisation du matériel pédagogique en classe multiâge

Abstract
Cet article présente les résultats d’une recherche menée auprès d’enseignants titulaires de classes multiâges de la région du Saguenay―Lac-Saint-Jean. Il présente un nouveau regard sur l’utilisation du matériel pédagogique qui se fait dans le contexte spécifique de la classe multiâge (CMA). La collecte de données s’est déroulée sur un an, en deux étapes. Au printemps 2008, un questionnaire a été distribué à tous les enseignants en CMA du Saguenay―Lac-Saint-Jean. Puis, durant l’automne 2008, six enseignants ont été sélectionnés pour participer à des entrevues semi-dirigées. Cet article présente les résultats de la collecte de données, ainsi que l’interprétation qui en découle. De façon générale, nous retenons de cette étude que l’utilisation du matériel pédagogique est loin d’être évidente en CMA. Les enseignants en CMA s’entendent sur le fait qu’il faut, lorsque c’est possible, utiliser un seul matériel pédagogique pour les différents degrés de la classe afin d’éviter le doublement de la tâche. Malgré cette intention, les spécificités de chaque discipline et le rapport aux savoirs qui s’y exerce influencent indirectement les choix de matériel pédagogique que font les enseignants en CMA.
