كشفت دراسة حديثة باستخدام الإنترنت من خلال ٢٣١ شخصاً قاموا بتعبئة استبانة في المملكة العربية أن الساعات التي يقضونها على الإنترنت واستخدام وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعية مرتفعة جدا بالمقارنة باستخدام التسوق عبر الإنترنت. وتستخدم شبكة الإنترنت بشكل رئيسي للمعاملات التي هي أقل تعقيدا مثل الأعمال المصرفية، وحجوزات السفر، وشراء وتحميل الأفلام والموسيقى. وهناك نسبة كبيرة من الذكور لمستخدمي الكمبيوتر، خريجي الجامعات، غير المتزوجين (العزاب)، وبعض من الإناث للقيام بالتسوق عن طريق الإنترنت. وهذا يشبه الدراسات التي أجريت في الدول الصناعية والحديثة باستثناء أن هذا البحث يشمل في دراسته على غير المتزوجين والنساء. وقد ظهر أن المخاوف الرئيسية التي تضمنها هذا البحث تتمثل في عدم ثقة السعوديين في الإنترنت وقلة حماية مستخدمي الإنترنت.
