Abstract
Cet essai porte sur l’histoire de Seydou Keïta (1921/1923-2001), photographe de quartier à Bamako dans les années 1950, dont le fonds d’archives est devenu le « fleuron » d’une collection privée d’art contemporain africain. L’autrice questionne les silences et les incohérences de la biographie du photographe, réécrite à plusieurs reprises depuis 1994. Le fonds Seydou Keïta, pièce essentielle du puzzle de l’histoire de la photographie au Mali, fort de plusieurs milliers de clichés, reste paradoxalement méconnu des chercheurs et plus généralement des Maliens qui n’ont accès à ce patrimoine visuel, totalement reconfiguré pour les besoins du marché de l’art, que virtuellement et partiellement. Cet essai prône d’autres moyens de valoriser le fonds Seydou Keïta, en le rendant accessible par la numérisation, ce qui permettrait de le « re-contextualiser » depuis Bamako et d’entrevoir d’autres façons de voir par la photographie.
