Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Community-based learning is a form of education that has been researched as part of higher education. It is an opportunity for the students to feel connected with the communities and develop their engineering identity. First-year engineering mechanics students took their learning to the next step by teaching engineering concepts to middle school kids as part of their learning process. The first-year engineering students developed and delivered interactive lesson plans to year 7 and 8 pupils in middle schools across Ontario. The project aimed at developing engineering knowledge through teaching, while enhancing the interest in engineering amongst the participating middle school kids. The study analyses the processes followed in executing the project and the perceived impact on first-year engineering students. The NVivo software is used in this study to assess the sentiments on the project from the reflection reports of the first-year engineering students.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
